Welcome to Florida. Three days, 2,000 miles, and I'm here.

Ditch day for seniors at Naples Daily High. It was my first dip in the ocean. Oh my.

La Reigna de la Fiesta contestants sit in the dressing room before they take the floor to see who won. Every year, there is a King and Queen of the local fiestas in Santa Fe which take place in September I think. It's an odd tradition. One that celebrates a rich and very important part of New Mexico, but one that also has roots in the conquest of the new world, which raises a lot of issues. Nonetheless, the contestants were all beautiful.

Shot a rainy, but nicely lit little league game last night. It's one of my things to shoot away-from-the-action features at games like this. From high school football to little league baseball, there are so many moments, from parents playing out their own ambitions, fears and anxieties through their children, to the social scene that is created for young people like the girl in the picture.

My second prom in two weeks. But this one was special. This first picture is of Estrella Lopez, senior at Peñasco High School where I went to school, and the start of the girls basketball team that I follewed during the seasion. She's looking out the window nervously waiting for her date to arrive.

The second picture is of a couple who were recently involved in a shooting up in Peñasco. She was shot through the hand and he was shot through the back three times. He graduated a couple of years ago but she is a senior this year and was voted prom queen. It was a touching moment to see the school crown her after what she went through. The other moment that pushed me over the edge happened when the boyfriend requested that song by Akon, where the corus goes, "Nobody wants to see us together but that don't matter because I got you babe." The shooting had to do with someone who did not want to see them together so even though the song is cheesy, it was pretty powerful.

From the depths of my CELL PHONE:
I was on my way from Santa Fe to Albuquerque yesterday, headed south on I-25, in a little bit of a rush, and this happened. The light was bangin. I didn't have a whole lot of time to pull over and get my camera, so I put my two megapixel cell phone camera to good use while I was driving. With a little toning these don't look bad. I love the light in New Mexico. We don't have any trees, and lots of big, blue skies and hills, and it makes for scenes like this. Que viva.
